Before you write
A few things that come up often, answered here so you do not have to wait for a reply.
A scan read the card wrong. Text recognition is imperfect on heavily designed cards. Every scan shows you a review screen before it saves — correct anything there, and it saves the way you fixed it. If a card fails badly, keep the card photo attached to the contact and type the fields you need.
Nothing loads / it seems offline. Fonym does not need network access at all to run. If something is not working, it is unlikely to be related to a connection problem.
I lost my backup password. The backup file is encrypted with your password on your device, and the password is never sent anywhere. It cannot be recovered — not by us, not by anyone. If you set a password hint when you exported, it is stored readable in the file itself and can be read back.
I changed phones. Export a backup file from the old phone, put it somewhere both phones can reach, and restore it on the new one with the same password.
Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, not by us, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not stand in the way of one.
Privacy
Fonym does not require you to create an account or sign in. The app displays no ads, and it does not share your data with third parties.
The full policy is at fonymapp.github.io/privacy, and the app links to it from Settings › Privacy Policy.
Reporting a bug
Fonym collects no diagnostics of any kind, so no log or crash report reaches us automatically. What you describe is the only information available to us.
The most helpful reports set out the actions taken in the app: the steps you followed, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. Please also include your iPhone model and iOS version, both shown under Settings › General › About. The more you can tell us about what took place in the app, the better we can understand what you encountered.
There is no need to send any personal information. If a particular card is involved, a description of it is enough — please do not attach it, or obscure the details first. We do not need the contents of your contacts to understand what happened.
